Community stories

Paint the Swan REaD, 2016

The Midland Community has embraced the Paint the Swan REaD campaign to promote early literacy. Through this campaign and CLAN Midland's Read Play Grow Program we use the Let's Read resources to share the importance of early literacy in the community.

The key benefits are to the families. The importance message of reading to children is gaining momentum and parents are sharing with us that they now love reading to their children and are doing it more often.

As Paint the Swan REaD and Let's Read are collaborative efforts with other Community Agencies, it has been a team effort to share the message of early literacy. It is our common agenda on local area meetings. We have had wonderful success with families whose first Language is not English embracing that they do not have to read to their children in English all the time. They were thrilled to know that it is important for them to read and sing to their children in their first language. It was as if a weight was lifted off their shoulders.
